Beyond Ordinary Knitwear - Introducing Eryca

Newly-launched label Eryca embodies the philosophy that life should be lived in colour. Defined by bright hues, locally sourced yarns, and energetic patterns, founder Erica Morgan-Tanton envisioned something beyond ordinary knitwear. With a profound appreciation for the texture and sensibility of yarn, she’s crafted a brand where sustainability meets indulgence.

“In creating Eryca, I wanted to bottle a feeling of confidence that you can step into whenever you need it. When you put on one of our garments, you’re going to feel bold and adventurous, without going entirely outside of your comfort zone. It’s a simple way of bringing joy into your everyday wardrobe,” says Morgan-Tanton.

Inspired by the versatile Erica flower, the name goes beyond a nod to the founder. This endemic plant thrives everywhere, from gardens to areas of wild fynbos. Blooming all year round, the Erica is as trans-seasonal as the clothing collection. It flowers in vibrant colours, radiating the same sense of happiness and adventure. The addition of the “y” in the name hints at yarn, tying back to the brand’s knitwear focus.

Committed to achieving her vision with care, she takes pride in curating an exclusive collection that is consciously designed. Made from locally sourced Merino Wool, Kid Mohair, and Mulberry Silk, Eryca transforms nature's finest gifts into treasured garments, crafted for longevity and minimal waste.

“The collection is crafted with the highest quality materials, providing luxurious comfort and sophistication. In addition to being thermo-regulating and easy to care for, wool is easily repaired, ensuring that you’ll get to enjoy your Eryca garment for years to come. It’s an investment in a sustainable, slow-fashion piece of clothing that you can feel good about having in your closet,” says Morgan-Tanton.

Staying true to her vision of integrating art into clothing, Morgan-Tanton ensures the label consistently features an artist range. Her first collaboration is with local artist Ruschka du Toit, whose ink portraits exude a gentle, nostalgic yet delightful style. Together, they designed the Iris jumper, encapsulating the essence of Ruschka’s work.

“If you go out to an event wearing an Eryca garment, chances are you’re going to be the only person there wearing one. Like any good piece of art, our knitwear is purposefully unique and made to stand out,” says Morgan-Tanton.

A celebration of colour and craftsmanship, Eryca’s knitwear collection epitomises luxury through its commitment to exceptional artistry and limited production runs. Each piece is carefully hand-finished by skilled local artisans, enhancing the allure of its creations. This meticulous approach makes Eryca a coveted choice for those who value both individuality and sustainability in their wardrobe.
