Keep Cool This Summer, Here's How

Holidays may be over, but summertime is still around for a while. This means we are still enjoying braais, weekend trips to the beach, and endless pool time. The heat, however, eventually takes its toll on everyone and sometimes you just need to cool down. Claire Bowen of personal care brand Shower to Shower, experts in staying fresh, offers a few suggestions on how to keep cool.

Keep Cool This Summer, Here's How

1. Hydrate

First and foremost, stay hydrated.Your greatest option for staying cool is hydration and while juices are delicious, it’s no substitute for plain water. Avoid sugary, caffeinated, or energy beverages because they can be counterproductive and dehydrate you further.

2. Choose the right fabric

When thinking about how to stay cool in the heat, fabric is crucial. Even if you're wearing loose, flowing clothing, if it’s made of a material that doesn't absorb moisture, it will stick to you. Maxi dresses may come to mind as an easy wear in summer, but always check the tags because the wrong fabric will trap all the heat in your body and clothing.

3. Shade

Too much

“fun in the sun”

can be dangerous, especially during the midday hours of 10:00 - 14:00, so step away from the sun and look for a breezy shady spot and allow time to unwind. Take a sip of your drink with the fun little umbrella, relax in a hammock, take in the views and take pleasure in your free time over the weekends.

4. Sweat-less days

Nothing is worse than having damp clothes from excessive perspiration on a hot summer day and those days can be slightly uncomfortable if you already perspire a lot. Shower to Shower Ladies Antiperspirant, Confident Me with StayDry™ and Soothex will ensure you are kept dry, fresh and confident while sitting back and enjoying the summer weekends.

5. Spice it up

We know what you are thinking…

“If you ate spicy food, wouldn't you get hotter?”

Well, yes, but when you consume spicy food, your body temperature rises internally, causing you to perspire. Spicy foods stimulate the skin's heat receptors which increases perspiration which means eating spicy meals will chill your body more effectively than foods like ice cream and watermelon which only have a temporary effect.
