How many times have you started to declutter a room with good intentions of finishing, only to
become disinterested and distracted? Those good intentions fly out the window, items are
“packed”
where they don’t belong and before you know it you are on season two, episode three
of the new binge worthy series.
“We all start decluttering with a clear goal in mind, but life takes over and only half the job gets done correctly,” laughs Bronwyn Ragavan, brand manager for home care brands Personal Touch and Chemico. “Keeping motivated and distraction free is hard to control but a clear plan can make all the difference.”
Ragavan suggests trying the following eight tips on how to keep motivated while decluttering:
1. Have clear, achievable goals. When you have a good idea of what the end result needs
to be achieving it becomes a little easier. Plan beforehand what your plan of action is
going to be - are you donating, throwing away, keeping or all three? Also, breaking down
your decluttering into smaller, manageable tasks gives you the sense of the possibility of
achievement.
2. Use products you know are going to get the job done the first time. Chemico’s range of
cleaning products won’t have you repeating your cleaning efforts, as one wipe with
Chemico Liqui Cleen will have your cupboards, countertops and shelves clean the first
time.
3. Play your favorite music or listen to motivating podcasts while decluttering. Music can
boost your mood and energy levels, making the process more enjoyable.
4. If you are sorting through your laundry cupboard, and running out of space, Personal
Touch Washing Powder sheets offer the same number of washes as a 2kg bag, but it is
neatly presented in a 90g box taking up very little space. Goodbye clutter.
5. Reward yourself by setting up a reward system for reaching decluttering milestones.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy, like a cup of coffee or a relaxing bath, as a way to
celebrate your progress.
6. Don't push yourself too hard. Take regular breaks to rest and recharge, especially during
longer decluttering sessions. This will help prevent burnout and keep your energy levels
up.
7. As you declutter, keep things organised and tidy. Seeing the progress you've made can
be motivating and encourage you to continue.
8. Remind yourself of the benefits of decluttering, such as reduced stress, increased
productivity, and more space to enjoy the things you love. Keeping these benefits in
mind can help you stay motivated, even when the going gets tough.
“Decluttering always seems like a good idea, until you start. By incorporating a plan of action,
and elements that you enjoy, such as music, you may just make it from A to Z in one
decluttering session,” comments Bronwyn.
