Keep Your Kids Immune Systems Happy This Winter

The winter months bring lots of seasonal changes, from hot chocolate and cosy clothes, to not such nice things like the common cold and the flu. During the winter months we’re often more vulnerable to catching certain viruses, and you’ll probably find that your children come down with colds more often in the winter. This winter season we expect everyone is feeling extra cautious, with the coronavirus still at front of mind. There are a few ways to keep kids’ immune systems healthy during the colder season. For example: having a balanced, healthy diet; getting outside for fresh air; and practising good hygiene i.e. keeping those fins clean!

Chow-Down On Healthy Food

A great way to keep your kids’ immune system ready for action is to have a healthy, balanced diet. There are many vitamins and minerals that your kids’ immune system needs to be able to support its normal function, such as Vitamin A, C, D, Folate, B6, B12, Zinc, Iron and Selenium. These vitamins can be found in a wide variety of foods such as citrus fruits, peppers, broccoli, spinach, shellfish, fortified foods and many more. To ensure that your kids are getting the nutrition they need, it can be a good idea to add a kids’ vitamin supplement into their daily routine. A daily vitamin for immune support or a multivitamin can help ensure that your kids get the nutrients they need. This can be especially important for children who may not get the nutrients they need from their diet if they are a slightly picky eater.

Wash, Wash, Wash Your Fins

Allowing your kids to play, especially with others, is a great way for them to learn. While there’s always the chance they’ll pick up unwanted germs, good hygiene can help minimise this.

Now more than ever it’s so important to educate kids about good hygiene practices, as this can help to stop them catching and spreading not-so-friendly germs. Reminding our kids to wash their hands frequently, and not to put their hands into their mouths, can help to slow down the spread of nasty illnesses.

The World Is Your Oyster

Finally, when possible, we encourage you to get your kids playing outside, as this is a great way to keep their immune systems thriving. We hope these tips help parents of excitable kids keep their immune systems ready for action this winter!
