Every person who still has hair will have a unique hairstyle. It is so important that to be forced to change that hairstyle is devastating to the person. For those who still have hair, many spend much time and money on hairstyles. Yet, the most important factor is to have healthy hair. There are many conditioners and treatments, but the most beautiful hair will come from good health. Deficiencies in nutrients that we get from our food will affect the health of our hair, both in the hair follicle growth cycle and in the cellular turnover. Vitamins and minerals such as B12 and D, biotin, riboflavin, iron, and other nutrients are associated with hair health and loss.
Studies have shown that the food we eat today is deficient in nutrients. In comparison to 80 years ago, the amount of minerals and vitamins is just a fraction of what it was in the past. We can take all the supplements we can find, but they will never contain the ratio of minerals and vitamins that good food will contain. In addition, many microorganisms are in real food that are not in any supplement. In addition, the food we eat from the local grocery store has been processed and has many unknown additives that destroy its natural state. The excess salt and sugar are there along with poisons from the production of food.
Vitamin C is an important nutrient for healthy hair. Vitamin C has strong antioxidant properties which protect against free radicals. Vitamin C also helps in the production of collagen which helps keep your hair from breaking. Vitamin C also helps in absorbing iron, a problem some women have that causes anemia. Vitamin A is another important nutrient for hair growth, but taking too many Vitamin A supplements may cause hair loss. Two very important vegetables that provide lots of Vitamin A and Vitamin C are sweet potatoes and sweet peppers. It is important to get your nutrients from good food, but most food is deficient in nutrients and loaded with toxic chemicals and other desirable substances.
The best that we can do today is to eat organically grown food. If we include meats, eggs, and dairy products that have been pastured-raised, we can add to our supply of natural minerals and supplements.
