Rock, Paper, Scissors - WASH!

In a world filled with complex health advice, it's reassuring to know that one of the simplest actions can make a big difference. Today, on World Hand Wash Day, let us not forget the humble, yet incredibly powerful, practice of handwashing.

Rock, Paper, Scissors - WASH!

World Hand Wash Day, observed annually on October 15th, shines a spotlight on this vital routine. This day reminds us that, beyond the buzz of health fads, something as basic as washing our hands can be a game-changer. By thoroughly washing our hands with soap and water, we remove dirt, bacteria, and grime that we unwittingly pick up throughout the day. It's like hitting the reset button on our health, wiping away potential threats and reducing the risk of illness.

Claire Bowen from Shower to Shower, shares a few practical tips to master the art of handwashing:

The 20-second rule: Sing "Happy Birthday" twice while washing your hands. This ensures you wash them for a full 20 seconds, reaching all areas, including between your fingers and under your nails.

Lather: Use soap, like a liquid hand wash. It might sound obvious, but soap makes all the difference. A liquid handwash like Fresh Escape from Shower to Shower is a convenient and effective choice for hand hygiene, as it's easy to dispense and ensures thorough coverage of your hands.

Don’t forget your wrists: Germs can hide in unexpected places. Make sure to wash not only your palms and fingers but also your wrists. Often overlooked, the wrist area can be a sneaky hiding spot for germs that you might transfer to your face or other surfaces.

Nail it: Our fingernails can be a hotbed for germs and dirt. Take a few extra seconds to clean under your nails with a nail brush or by using the tips of your fingers. This simple step can significantly improve the effectiveness of your hand washing routine, keeping those hidden germs at bay.

Warm water: While cold water can get the job done, warm water is more effective at dissolving oils and removing germs.

Drying matters: After washing, dry your hands thoroughly with a clean towel or an air dryer. Wet hands can harbour germs.

Claire Bowen from Shower to Shower says that we should use this World Hand Wash Day to remind ourselves that health doesn't always have to be complicated.

“Sometimes, it's the small, everyday actions like handwashing that have the biggest impact on our well-being.”
