The Versatility of Coffee Could Save You Money

In today’s economic climate, we often look for ways to use what we have readily available – it is a better and cheaper solution instead of purchasing something you won’t need again.

The Versatility of Coffee Could Save You Money

“There are various items in our homes that can be used for things we have never thought of. All it takes is a little creative thinking,” explains Hayley van Niekerk, Marketing Manager for Jacobs.

Coffee is one of the most versatile products that can be used both in and out of the kitchen. Jacobs coffee has a range of products that can be used in alternate ways, especially their capsules. Your journey with your Jacobs capsule doesn’t have to come to an end once your delicious coffee is made and enjoyed, keep your grounds and use them afterwards in different ways.

  • Course pod grounds can be used as a body scrub and is excellent at exfoliating your skin. Mix your grounds with an oil of choice or even with water and use.

  • Coffee is filled with antioxidants and can be used to help prevent the appearance of aging and dark circles under your eyes. Add coconut oil to your grounds and gently rub on to the targeted area.

  • Coffee grounds are a valuable addition to compost piles. They help speed up the decomposition process, provide essential nutrients, and attract beneficial earthworms. Just remember to balance the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio by mixing coffee grounds with other compostable materials.

  • Used coffee grounds can be an excellent natural fertilizer for plants. They are rich in nitrogen, potassium, and other essential nutrients that can enrich the soil and promote healthy plant growth. Simply sprinkle the grounds around your plants or mix them into the soil.

  • Place a small bowl of coffee grounds in your fridge, cupboard, or other areas where odours tend to linger. They will help eliminate unpleasant smells and leave a subtle coffee aroma.

  • Use coffee grounds as a natural dye for fabrics or even as a hair rinse. By soaking fabrics or hair in strong brewed coffee, you can achieve earthy brown tones, giving them a vintage or rustic appearance.

  • You can use coffee grounds to create stained paper or aged-looking parchment for calligraphy or antique-style artwork. Coffee stains can also add an interesting touch to wood crafts or DIY projects.

“Sometimes there is no need to rush to the shops when all it takes is a little research. The chances are, what you are looking for could be found in your home all along,” comments van Niekerk. “Coffee is extremely versatile and is not the only pantry staple that can be used for a multitude of things.”
